The Karen Provision Store on Karen Road has been a community fixture since the 1980s, stocking butchery, dairy and seasonal produce for long-time Karen families. The Karen Country Club is the social anchor of Karen — an 18-hole championship golf course (originally part of Karen Blixen’s coffee estate, opened to members in 1937), plus tennis, squash, swimming, a clubhouse hosting much of Karen’s formal social calendar, and a long-running junior golf academy. Membership applications are notoriously oversubscribed and most Karen families consider the club a defining part of moving to the suburb.

The Karen Hospital is the area’s main private hospital with a full-service A&E, specialist clinics, in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and a busy maternity unit. Founded in 2006 by cardiologist Dr Dan Gikonyo on Karen Road, it has become the obvious first-stop hospital for anyone living within the wider Karen catchment — including Langata, Ongata Rongai and the southern Kilimani belt.
