The Village Market in Gigiri (5 minutes from Runda) is one of the longest-running expat-favourite malls in East Africa — opened in 1995 with 150+ outlets, an open-air water-feature courtyard, a cinema, a craft market, mini-golf and the famous Friday Maasai Market. The default mall for Runda residents.

Two Rivers Mall on Limuru Road opened in 2017 and is currently the largest mall in East Africa at over 70,000 m² of leasable retail. Rosslyn Riviera Mall on Limuru Road opened in 2016 as a community-format mall, anchored by Carrefour with a Java House, Artcaffe, Healthy U, and a busy weekend Sunday brunch crowd. Closer to Runda than Two Rivers and a frequent everyday-needs stop for Runda families.

Karura Forest hosts a weekly Saturday farmers’ market at the Gate B / River Cafe entrance, with organic produce, butchery, cheese, baked goods and craft stalls from Karura-area smallholders. The market has become a weekend institution for Runda, Muthaiga and Gigiri residents.

Karura Forest is one of the largest urban forests in the world (about 1,041 hectares), bordering Runda directly on its eastern edge. The forest is fenced, gated and patrolled, with marked walking, running, mountain biking and horse-riding trails, a waterfall, the Mau Mau caves, a coffee shop (River Cafe) and a Saturday farmers’ market. The Friends of Karura Forest (CFA) charges a small entry fee that funds maintenance.

The UN Recreation Centre (UNRC) inside the UN Office at Nairobi compound in Gigiri offers a swimming pool, gym, squash courts, a clubhouse, and is open to UN staff and certain affiliated members — a perk many Runda residents reach via family employment. The Muthaiga Country Club (founded 1913) on Muthaiga Road provides golf, tennis, squash and dining, and is one of the oldest members’ clubs in East Africa.
